Motion control and automation system developerKollmorgen (name)(Kollmorgen Corp.) this week introduced the Smart Feedback Device Multiturn Encoder (SFD-M). The company says the SFD-M helps machine builders achieve high-resolution, multi-turn feedback and provides absolute positioning information at system startup.

The SFD-M absolute multiturn encoder is designed for use with AKD and AKD2G drives and can be integrated into servo motors packaged by Kollmorgen. There is no additional cost compared to the SFD-3 single-turn absolute encoder. This enables it to offer multi-turn performance, four times the positioning accuracy and 50 times the EMF noise.
Kollmorgen has over 100 years of experience in motion control. Its broad product portfolio includes motors, drives, linear actuators, automated guided vehicle (AGV) control systems and automation control platforms. The Radford, Virginia-based company says its technology combines performance, reliability and ease of use to help machine builders gain an edge in the marketplace.
